They say that most photographers gain their future clients through word of mouth, they arn’t wrong there. Alischa got in touch with me after viewing my shoots form both of the Casben weddings (her cousins) I had documented previously. Alischa and Mark were from Sydney but were going to have their wedding in the Nelson Bay area which thrilled me to bits as I have fond memories of living in the area around 10 years ago. At first Alischa was keen to get some suggestions of where they should have their ceremony. I thought they might have wanted to go for a beach wedding having so many lovely beaches in the area, they eventually settled on having the ceremony at The Ancourage Port Stephens. This was a venue I knew pretty well….not from weddings as such but from stays my husband and I have had there and having spent the odd afternoon fishing along the jetty there…with a latte in hand of course. Then they later told me they were having the reception at Crest at Anna Bay, the plans for this wedding were getting better by the minute. I wasn’t aware that Crest would do wedding receptions and apparently they don’t but Alischa managed to convince the owner there to take the challenge on and see how it goes.
We had tried to meet up multiple times before the wedding but life commitments and newborn baby in tow I was unable to get a date and time that suited. So the night before the wedding we had a quick chat to get further acquainted in person. I found Alischa and Mark to be pretty cool, down to earth people that were going to be great to work with along with their wedding party I could tell we were going to have some laughs along the way.
The wedding day itself ran pretty smoothly. Alischa had got to alot of trouble with the details of the day which was great for building the story of their day. They arrived at the ceremony in combi vans of aqua for the guys and white for the brides side and The Ancourage did a wonderful job of setting up a ceremony by the water.
The location shots afterwards we used a combination of sea side and land shots. The lovely gardens that go through tho the beach were great for shots of the couple and the wedding party.
The crew at crest did an amazing job of hosting the reception, I managed to get access up to the lifeguards tower to get the big group shot. The big love sign was a great addition to have and was well used by the guests as a photo backdrop.
Alischa and Mark had done so well with the little details that make wedding receptions so great. They had a little candy bar that was well used by guests in the early hours of the reception….always a hit with the kids, and the kids were well catered for with a table set up with games and crafts to entertain them during the evening….very smart move I’d say. They also had an area where people could use the Polaroid camera to take a little pic of themselves then hang their portraits up on a large wooden frame and also leave a little not of well wishes.
It really was a fantastic day all round. I want to thank Alischa and Mark for inviting me to document this special day for them. I had a wonderful time documenting everything they had worked to hard to achieve, it all came together beautifully. I wish them all the best with their futures as husband and wife.
